Wellbeing in the workplace

Positive minds mean positive results

Creating an environment for individuals to thrive in is crucial for a productive workspace. Work is where we spend a large percentage of our time, and that’s why it is important for us to ensure that the experience is a positive one. This way, we can develop great relationships with our clients and consistently produce work of an excellent standard. At Voodoochilli, we have developed our own unique ways of making sure we, as a team, are feeling tip-top and working to our optimum potential. We wanted to share some of these with you…

Short and regular walks

Sat at a desk all day, concentrating on a screen, can soak up a lot of energy and leave you feeling a little exhausted. With our studio positioned in a prime spot outside of the Hereford Cathedral, it gives us the perfect opportunity to stretch our legs and take a stroll around the city centre on our break. Each day, we make a conscious effort to go on at least two walks (three if we’re feeling extra energetic)! It’s the closest thing we’ve found to a human refresh button and we come back to the office rejuvenated with a fresh mindset, ready to get creative. We also have an in-house gym for our staff, which leaves no excuse for us to avoid the walk if the weather isn’t favourable!

Standing desks

The NHS suggests that we should exercise for at least 150 minutes per week and reduce the time we are sat down, to avoid ill health. The facility to adjust our office desks to standing encourages us to stand up and move about as much as possible.

Team building

Great team morale leads to highly motivated staff with an excellent level of communication, both internal and external. Our projects demand a lot of collaboration work, so it is essential that we can work together productively. We finish early each Friday to promote this through socialising and discussing the week in review (whether it be personal or professional). Above all, we cultivate an environment whereby people can be open with each other and share and discuss any problems they may be facing, whether it be personal or professional.

An earlier start means an earlier finish

In an attempt to avoid the Hereford rush hour traffic, we start our working day at 8:30am and finish at 4:30pm. Consequently, we get to and from work far less stressed and get to maximise our time with family and loved ones.

Reading

It is part of our company policy that we read at least one book per month. Not only is reading the perfect excuse for some ‘time out’, but a fantastic way to further educate ourselves.

Educate

Working in an ever-evolving industry, it’s imperative to keep up to date with new technology and maintain a high level of expertise. Staff are sent on training courses and professional and personal development is part of our company policy. Learning, improving and being the best we can be is of key importance to us and we take staff development seriously.

Private healthcare

All staff have access to free private healthcare for them and their families. This includes provision for private eye and dental care.
