The process behind what we do
The project starts with understanding the scope of the project - what you need doing. In most cases the details are worked out during a friendly meeting with you over a cup of tea or coffee at our offices. During this meeting, together we work out the best way to get your website working effectively for you.
We loosely adopt an “agile methodology” way of working which essentially means we listen to our clients and take their feedback on board in order to produce work that they are delighted with. As our client, you become part of the team for the duration of the project and beyond.
Once we have a clear understanding of the brief, we will offer you a quotation and time-scale for the work. Once the quotation has been accepted we begin the design phase.
Before we can design your site it is very important to get an understanding of the overall structure and functionality of a website. We do this with a series of wireframes which are essentially a digital sketch highlighting which features will appear on each page.
Now the fun part! Our design team will start working on initial drafts of your website. We normally just work on the home page to begin with, and then once it has been approved we then design the inner pages. There is no set limit to the number of designs we can provide, but often the first design is the one selected. You then provide feedback for the design – tweaks and changes, and in some cases a request for a new design entirely. This process normally takes around 1-2 weeks, a little longer if a logo design is required as well.
Once the design has been signed off, and only then, do we start coding up the site. This guarantees you are100% happy with the design. During the build phase we code up the site HTML as well as work on any advanced features such as the CMS. This phase of the project is a little quiet as far as your involvement is concerned so it is a good time for you to be thinking about any final content changes. The build phase duration is dependant on the complexity of the project, but typically it will last 2-4 weeks.
Once the site has been coded up and you are happy with the work done, we begin testing. Here we will pick up any bugs or issues prior to launch. This phase lasts a few days.
Finally, it's time to pop open a bottle of Champagne and admire your new site! But things don't stop there for us. Over the next few weeks we carefully monitor your site and make sure it is working as it should be, on hand should you need us. If your site is brand new, we will also ensure it is submitted to all of the major search engines and directories.
